Student Emergency Assistance Fund

The Student Emergency Assistance Fund provides financial support to Fletcher students facing unexpected, short-term hardships. Our goal is to help you overcome immediate financial hurdles so you can remain enrolled and focus on completing your coursework.

Important Note: Applying does not guarantee funding. Each request is individually reviewed by the Student Emergency Assistance Fund Committee based on the urgency of the crisis and available resources.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enrollment: You must be currently enrolled in a Fletcher academic or workforce program.
  • Nature of Hardship: You are experiencing a documented crisis (e.g., job loss, natural disaster, or an emergency medical procedure).
  • Exhaustion of Funds: You have already explored all other options, including federal financial aid, payment plans, and community resources.
  • Documentation: You must provide proof of the expense, such as repair estimates, billing statements, lease agreements, or bank statements.

Expense Guide

The fund is designed for unforeseen emergencies, not routine expenses or long-term financial gaps.

Eligible Expenses:

  • Emergency medical or dental costs
  • Vital housing, rent, or utilities
  • Essential school supplies
  • Emergency childcare or safety needs
  • Travel for immediate family illness/death

Ineligible Expenses

  • Routine groceries (Visit The Resource Hub)
  • Non-essential utilities (Cable, Wi-Fi)
  • Non-emergency travel or entertainment
  • Credit card bills or insurance deductibles
  • Legal fees, fines, or citations (including on-campus)

A note on Tuition: While tuition is generally considered a planned expense, it may be considered if an unanticipated crisis has diverted your pre-budgeted tuition funds.

Before You Apply: Essential Checklist

1. Meet with an Enrollment Specialist: If your financial need is long-term, your specialist can reevaluate your financial aid package or identify federal loan options.

2. Explore On-Campus Support:

  • The Resource Hub: Food, hygiene items, and clothing (Room 132, Schriever Main Campus).
  • Mental Health: Access 6 free virtual sessions through UWill.
  • Transportation: Bus vouchers are available through the Department of Student Affairs.

3. Search the Community Database: Visit the Bayou Community Foundation website www.bayouhelp.org for local rental and food assistance.

Application Process

If you have exhausted the resources above and meet the eligibility requirements, please complete the application below.

Please note that approved funds are issued as a check made payable directly to the vendor or service provider (e.g., your landlord or repair shop). Once processed, the student is responsible for picking up the check from the college and delivering it to the vendor to satisfy the payment. The Board reserves the right to review on a case-by-case basis.
