Welcome to
American Sign Language (ASL)
In an effort to spread awareness and inclusion, Fletcher is now offering its first sign language course! Conversational ASL & Deaf Culture is an introductory course in conversational American Sign Language using a natural language approach to introduce culturally appropriate signed concepts. Common communicative events and interactions are utilized to acquire a basic working vocabulary and grammar. It includes development of linguistic and cultural behaviors and awareness of and respect for Deaf culture and is open to ALL AGES.
The non-credit course is designed with flexibility in mind by meeting in-person on Thursday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and/or virtually on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. It also includes hand selected and custom made materials and videos in the Learning Management System called Canvas to reinforce the skills and concepts taught during class. The online material is available to actively enrolled students 24/7.
Dates and cost:
You can start anytime! The class runs continuously throughout the year for $100 per month, due before the first Thursday of each month. As an active student in the course, you will be granted access to the electronic course materials, videos, and assignments, a seat in the in-person classroom, and a link to join the virtual classroom.
