WELDING PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Welding Program provides students with an understanding of the various processes and techniques of welding including welding safety, oxyfuel cutting, carbon arc cutting, shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, gas metal arc welding, pipe welding, and plasma arc cutting.

The program reviews the necessary skills designated by the American Welding Society (AWS) and prepares students for the AWS entry-level test.  Welding is a specialized skill and offers career opportunities that include:

  • working in welding shops
  • manufacturing of metal goods
  • construction
  • pipe welding

NON-DEGREE, SHORT-TERM TRAINING OPTIONS
AWS WELDING BASICS- NIGHT CLASS

To meet the growing demand for welders in our region and across the nation, class participants will learn fundamental skills needed to exhibit mastery in AWS welding applications. Participants will be exposed to shielded metal arc welding, (SMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) based on their ability level. Those who show mastery in required skills sets will be referred to weld testing labs for AWS certifications. Classes will consist of primarily hands-on training with some classroom instruction.

This class is an 8-week non-credit class that meets from 5:30-8:30pm. To enroll, students must complete an admissions application and select "Construction Trades" as their major. After submitting the application, email technicaleducation@fletcher.edu for next steps. The cost of this course is $1,000.

*This is not a financial aid (FAFSA) eligible course. Students must pay tuition upon registration unless notified otherwise. All non-credit course tuition and fees are assessed by each class. Tuition, fees, and other charges relating to non-credit classes are not refundable unless the training course is canceled by the College.
