AAPC Exams

AAPC is the world’s largest training and credentialing organization for the healthcare business, with members working in medical codes, auditing, billing, clinical documentation improvement, compliance, revenue cycle management, and practice management.

To take an AAPC examination, the examinee must be an AAPC member. Membership to AAPC can be purchased at the time of purchasing an exam voucher.

Fletcher administers many AAPC exams, such as Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)™exam, Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA)™ exam, Certified Anesthesia and Pain Management Coder (CANPC)™ exam, and more.

The most common exams are the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) ™ and Certified Professional Biller (CPB) ™ exams.

CPC and CPB Examinations

The CPC exam is a test of medical coding proficiency which has 100 multiple-choice questions that assess 17 areas of knowledge. Most questions present a coding scenario to test proper application of CPT procedure codes, HCPCS Level II procedure and supply codes, and ICD-10-CM diagnosis code, which are all used by medical providers to submit claims to payers.

The CPB exam contains 135 multiple-choice questions. Most questions present a scenario to test proper application of billing regulations, collections practices, HIPAA rules, compliance best practices, and procedure/diagnosis codes.

To pass the CPC and CPB examinations, you must complete the exam within four hours and answer 70% of the questions correctly.
