Fletcher's Care and Development of Young Children Associate Degree program will teach you what you need to know to be successful in your future career in childcare. This program is 100% online with the exception of the two practicum courses during which you will be working and studying in a child care facility.
Program Overview
The Associate of Applied Science degree in Care & Development of Young Children is designed to prepare students for the workforce in occupations related to the direct care, education, curriculum development, and/or administration of programs for young children. Graduates will be prepared and eligible to open their own licensed childcare centers, serve as childcare providers and directors of licensed centers, or work in quality childcare programs such as Head Start and Early Start. This program is viewed as a terminal, not a transfer, degree program; however, all requirements for credentials of instructors and quality of courses are maintained exactly as needed for AS and AA (transfer) degrees of the College. Specific courses may transfer to four-year universities if the candidate would like to pursue a Bachelor degree. Students are required to maintain a portfolio and other artifacts for this degree program. Students are required to work under supervision and mentorship at schools or child care centers outside of class.

certified babysitter (non-credit course for all ages)
This 100% online, 2-hour, $50 course will prepare babysitters for starting or improving a babysitting business. Students will learn what a typical babysitting job is like and how to provide proper care for toddlers, preschoolers, and school age children. The course consists of 25 sections of content which include topics such as communicating with parents and guardians, identifying and responding to behaviors, discipline, bedtime, games and craft ideas, cooking and cleaning, and babysitting laws. Additionally, this online babysitting course will provide guidance on how to handle emergencies including first aid and CPR basics. The course is available now!

INDUSTRY-BASED CERTIFICATION AVAILABLE
Completion of the Associates of Applied Science Degree provides eligibility of the Early Childhood Ancillary Certificate, as required by the State of Louisiana for early childhood teachers.
