Schriever, LA - Fletcher Technical Community College is celebrating a historic milestone as the college reaches its 75th anniversary, marking 75 years of changing lives through education, workforce training, and community partnerships.

Originally opening its doors as South Louisiana Trade School on July 2, 1951, Fletcher has grown from a small trade school into a comprehensive community college serving students and employers across South Louisiana. Throughout its history, the institution has remained committed to preparing students for meaningful careers while adapting to meet the evolving workforce needs of the region.

Today, Fletcher offers academic transfer programs, career and technical education, workforce training, adult education, and industry partnerships that support some of Louisiana's most vital sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing, maritime, aviation, energy, information technology, and transportation.

"For 75 years, Fletcher has helped transform lives by providing opportunities that empower students, strengthen families, and support the workforce needs of our region," said Dr. Kristine Strickland, Chancellor of Fletcher Technical Community College. "This milestone is a celebration of every student, graduate, employee, retiree, and community partner who has helped shape Fletcher's legacy. As we honor our past, we remain committed to preparing the workforce and changing lives for generations to come."

Since opening in 1951, Fletcher has evolved through several name changes while remaining true to its mission of expanding educational opportunities for the people of South Louisiana. What began as South Louisiana Trade School has grown into a nationally recognized community college dedicated to workforce excellence, student success, and economic development.

The college will officially celebrate this milestone during its 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Gala on Thursday, July 9, at the Fletcher Schriever Campus. The evening will feature a 1950s-inspired celebration with live music, local cuisine, a signature cocktail, a silent auction, a walk through Fletcher's history, and opportunities for alumni, retirees, employees, students, and community partners to reconnect while honoring the college's legacy. Guests will also experience the official unveiling of Fletcher's new mascot, marking an exciting new chapter in the college's history.

As Fletcher celebrates 75 years of changing lives, the college remains focused on its mission of providing high-quality education, strengthening the regional workforce, and creating opportunities that transform lives across South Louisiana.
