ADULT EDUCATION
We serve residents of Terrebonne, Lafourche, and Assumption parishes.
New to the program? Complete an enrollment form HERE or call our office to begin. From there, we'll set up a short intake conversation and a free skills assessment to help build your learning plan. New classes start about every 8 weeks. Classes may be offered online, in-person, or a combination of both, depending on your needs and location.
Not ready to fully enroll yet? Call or email us with any questions — you don't have to have everything figured out before you reach out.
Who Can Enroll
Adults not currently enrolled in high school, without a high school diploma or its equivalent, may enroll at any time.
If you're under 18 and/or still enrolled in high school, you'll need to meet some additional qualifications to enroll. Call us, and we'll help you find out if you qualify.
High School Equivalency (HSE) Pathways
In Louisiana, HSE is the credential — the diploma itself. There are several approved pathways to earn it, and our program can help you choose the right one:
- HiSET exam — a five-subject test (Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies)
- GED exam — a four-part subject test (Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies).
- Accuplacer college placement test — a two-subject computer-based exam (Writing and Math); free for our Adult Education students
- College coursework pathway — complete qualifying English and Math courses at an LCTC college with a grade of "C" or better
- Combination pathways — a mix of coursework and placement test scores
Classes and instruction through our program are always free. Active, participating students receive a voucher to cover the cost of the HiSET exam, and may qualify for free Accuplacer testing as well. Costs vary by pathway — we can walk you through which option fits you and what, if anything, it costs.

Is the program really free?
Yes. All Adult Education classes and instruction are free. Active, participating students can receive a voucher to cover the cost of the HiSET exam and may qualify for free Accuplacer testing. Costs vary depending on which HSE pathway you choose — your instructor can walk you through the options.
Who is eligible to enroll?
Adults not currently enrolled in high school, without a high school diploma or its equivalent.
Can someone under 18 enroll?
Individuals as young as 16 may be eligible if they're not enrolled and not required to be enrolled in secondary school under state law. Contact our office to find out what documentation is needed.
What's the difference between HSE, HiSET, and Accuplacer?
HSE (High School Equivalency) is the credential itself — the diploma you earn. GED, HiSET and Accuplacer are just different ways to earn it: HiSET is a five-subject exam, GED is a four-subject option, while Accuplacer is a college-placement test covering Writing and Math. Your Adult Education program can help you decide which pathway fits you best.
What happens after I enroll?
You'll complete an intake meeting to talk about your goals, then take a skills assessment — it's not pass/fail, it just helps us build the right learning plan for you. New classes start about every 8 weeks.
How much time do classes take?
Most students attend classes and/or complete online assignments for 3–6 hours per week. The more you're able to attend, the faster you'll reach your goals. Minors will have to meet attendance requirements per truancy laws.
Are classes online, in-person, or both?
We offer both, depending on the site and your needs. Contact our office to talk through what fits you.
What if I can't come during the day?
We offer classes at different times across our locations. Call 985-448-5926 or email us, and we'll match you with a schedule that works for you.
How long does it take to finish?
It depends on your starting skill level and how often you attend — some students finish in months, others take longer. Your instructor will help you set a realistic pace after your assessment.
Can I get college credit while I'm in the program?
Yes — enrolled students may qualify for the Career Pathways Scholarship (formerly 5 for 6 Scholarship), a pathway to free college classes and/or training while you work toward your HSE diploma. Ask your instructor or the Program Director for details.
