The GED instruction offered on the Fletcher St. Charles campus is provided by Bayou Cane Adult Education Center. Students interested in the program have two options for enrollment. Applicants can enroll in the GED program only, or they can co-enroll in a Fletcher technical program such as Residential Air Conditioning, Machine Tool Technology, Welding, Marine Diesel, Automotive, Electrician, or CNA. Classes follow the schedule of holidays and breaks as set forth by the Terrebonne Parish School Board and currently are offered in the morning, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., although arrangements for afternoon sessions may be made on an individual basis.
In order to be eligible to enroll in the GED program, an applicant must meet the following requirements:
Students interested in the GED program only must call Bayou Cane (985) 876-3180 to schedule TABE testing. Placement of GED only students is based on individual TABE results, and reading and math scores of 9.0 or higher are required to be assigned to the Fletcher classroom. Students scoring lower will attend classes at Bayou Cane until the required skill levels are attained.
Students interested in enrolling in both the GED program and a technical area must complete the freshman admissions process to Fletcher as well as GED TABE testing. (TABE testing is not accepted as an entrance score for Fletcher.) They may contact the GED instructor at (985) 858-5765 or Bayou Cane (985) 876-3180.
Students already enrolled at Fletcher who are also interested in enrolling in the GED program should contact the GED instructor at (985) 858-5765 or Bayou Cane (985) 876-3180.
Fletcher Technical Community College and Terrebonne Parish Adult Education Program (Bayou Cane) are currently participating in an Accelerating Opportunity grant initiative designed to assist students who wish to achieve technical certificates as well as a GED diploma. These students may receive additional help with their academic work as well as with enrollment and financial aid procedures. The goal is to provide support for students to have the academic and career knowledge necessary to attain sustainable employment. Manufacturing and Health Services career pathways have been identified as two focus areas and students enrolled in Welding and Certified Nursing Assistant programs are eligible for Accelerating Opportunity assistance.
Students who are interested in either Welding or Certified Nursing Assistant courses at Fletcher may contact Bayou Cane (985) 876-3180 for more information regarding the Accelerating Opportunity program.
