Machine Tool Technology
Program Overview

Machine Tool Technology is the study of using machine tools to manufacture products and parts.  Fletcher's Machine Tool Technology program involves operating machine shop equipment such as manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment.  Students will learn to calculate speeds and feeds; dimensions for layout; and use of precision measuring equipment.  Students will also develop a basic understanding of CAD/CAM programming.

Salary & Career Outlook

Fletcher's program provides specialized classroom instruction and practical shop experience to prepare students for employment in the following fields:
     -Machinist
     -Machinist Inspector
     -Leaderman Positions
     -Quality Control
     -Precision Inspection
     -CNC Turning and Milling

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that as of May 2010, Machine Tool Technicians earned an average annual base salary betwen $24,100 and $58,060.  The demand for machine tool technicians and operators has been great in South Louisiana.  There are over 50 machine shops in Terrebonne Parish and the industry needs for entry level technicians surpasses the supply of qualified individuals.
