Program Overview

The Marine Diesel Engine Technician program prepares a student to diagnose, service and repair marine diesel engines.  Students are instructed on how to overhaul engines and their component systems; repair marine transmission and hydraulic systems; welding; and rigging.  The instruction also includes the use of technical manuals; preventive maintenance procedures; communication and employability skills; and safe and efficient work practices.

Salary & Career Outlook

At the completion of the Marine Diesel program, students are prepared for employment as an entry-level marine diesel engine technician.

According to the Fletcher's Craft Advisory Committee in 2010, students employed in the maritime industry earned a starting salary ranging from $40,000 - $50,000 and after five years, $80,000 - $90,000.
