Nursing Assistant Checklist & Application

Program Overview

The Nurse Assistant Program prepares students to perform basic care services to patients including checking vital signs, grooming, and nutrition.  The program includes an introduction to health care, basic nursing skills, body structure and function, and infection control.  The program includes instruction on the Federal Nursing Home Reform Act or OBRA national skill standards.

Students participate in clinical activities at local hospitals, nursing homes, or long term care facilities under the supervision of the instructor.


Salary & Career Outlook

Upon completion of the program, the student is qualified for certification and employment in the areas of long-term care, home health, and acute care as:
     -Nurses aides
     -Patient care technicians
     -Home health aides

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in the field of nurse assistant is projected to grow 19% between 2008 and 2018. The median annual earnings of nursing aides, orderlies, and attendants were $20,630 in May 2011.
