Q.

Where is the library?

A.

The Coastal Commerce Bank Library has two locations.  The Schriever location is located at 1407 Highway 311 in Room 128.  The Houma location is located at 310 St. Charles Street in Room 202.

Q.

What are the hours of operation?

A.

The Schriever location is open Monday through Thursday, 7AM to 7PM and Friday, 7AM to 4:00PM during the fall and spring semesters, as well as 7AM to 4:00PM during the summer, and during semester breaks. The Houma campus is open on Wednesdays and Fridays 7:00AM-3:30PM during the semester.  The library page on the Fletcher website has links to numerous databases that students can access from campus, or home, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Who may use the library?

A.

Fletcher students, faculty and staff may use the Coastal Commerce Bank Library. Additionally, any member of the public may ask for and receive assistance from the library staff.

Q.

Who may borrow library materials?

A.

Currently enrolled students with Fletcher ID Cards, faculty, and staff may borrow library materials. Patrons with a valid LALINC card may borrow library materials.

Q.

How long can books be checked out?

A.

Currently enrolled students with Fletcher ID Cards, may check out books for three weeks, with two renewal options.

Q.

How can users find library materials?

A.

The Coastal Commerce Bank Library has a computerized card catalog, which can be accessed through Fletcher’s web page. Brochures with detailed instructions are available in the library to assist with information needs. Tutorials on using the card catalog are also available if assistance is needed.

Are computers available in the library?

A.

The Library at the Schriever campus has 30 computers for student use. There are 15 computers at the Houma campus, which are available for library use.

Q.

Are passwords needed to access the computers in the library?

A.

Yes. The username and password for the library computers is the same as those used for Joule.

Q.

Can the general public print articles found in the online databases in the library or on the internet?

A.

Only currently enrolled students with valid Fletcher ID’s can print articles found in the online databases. The public may access and print articles from the internet. At this time, the Coastal Commerce Bank Library does not charge for printing, but we request printing be limited to 30 pages.

Is the online catalog accessible off campus?

A.

Yes. Anyone with internet access on a computer may search for books in the online catalog from their home, or other locations.

Q.

Are the electronic databases accessible off campus?

A.

Currently enrolled students can access the indexes and databases off campus if their computers have internet connections. This is also true for faculty and staff. If accessing from a remote location, students will use their Lola number as the username and the last 4 digits of the Lola number as the password.  For more information, please check with the librarian.

Q.

Can cell phones be used in the library?

A.

No. Cell phone use is prohibited in the library. Cell phones must be silenced before entering the library.

Q.

Can laptop computers be used in the library?

A.

Laptops may be used for accessing personal documents that may be in software applications such as Word, or PowerPoint. Internet access is  available for personal laptops.

Q.

Does the library have any popular fiction?

A.

The library sponsors “Take It, or Leave It”, popular fiction that has been donated by students, staff and faculty at the Houma campus. These items may be checked out; donations may be accepted to add to this collection.

Q.

Does the library have a copy machine?

A.

At the Houma campus, the Student Government Association (SGA) has provided a copy machine for the library. Copies are $.10 per page. At the Schriever campus, copies are $.10 each.

Q.

Are textbooks available in the library?

A.

As a rule, the library does not purchase textbooks because its purpose is to supplement classroom materials. Occasionally, the library may have a textbook used in a course, but such instances are rare.

Q.

What other services are available at the library?

A.

Instruction sessions, workshops on library information resources, as well as individual reference appointments, are offered through library services. The library also has online tutorials available on the library web page.

The library has a TV monitor with a VHS and DVD player for students to access materials within the library collection. The library has audio-visual materials on pipe drafting, diesel technology, math, English, and other topics related to the school curriculum. Portable CD players are available for student use in the library.

The library provides Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests if materials are not available in the library. LALINC reciprocal borrowing cards can be obtained at the library. Fletcher instructors may also place materials on Reserve in the library. Reserve materials may be checked out for a two-hour time period, and must remain in the library. The library has over 30,000 online books that are available through NetLibrary. The library can provide users Talking Books through the Louisiana State Library.

Assistive Technology is also available on a designated workstation in the library.

What other libraries are available in the area?

A.

You might be able to check out materials from some Louisiana academic libraries if you have a LALINC card and the library you wish to use allows you to check out the materials you wish to use.
