The Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) Facilities Corporation has awarded the design build team of Thompson Construction Company, Inc. and Duplantis Design Group of Thibodaux, Louisiana, the contract to design and construct L.E. Fletcher Technical Community College's (Fletcher) New Campus Development.
The $19,098,000 new campus development is part of the Act 391 facilities projects, which was passed during the 2007 Legislative Session and includes 23 projects for 14 community and technical colleges throughout the state and a total bond package of $173.7 million. The LCTCS Facilities Corporation opted for a design-build approach, in which the architect and builder work together as a team from start to finish. This typically allows for a project to move forward on a faster schedule and assures rigorous cost control as adjustments can be made easily along the way.
Fletcher's New Campus Development will be located on Louisiana Highway 311 near Highway 90 in Schriever, Louisiana on 32 acres of state owned land. The project is scheduled to begin next year and is expected to be completed before the fall semester of 2012. The new building will be approximately 89,000 square feet and house a new library, academic resource learning center, numerous computer labs, a new student commons, a community meeting room and classrooms and labs for arts and sciences, business programs, drafting and design and integrated production technologies.
